Founded in 1928 by Harold Clarence “HC” Hansen, The Dependable Painting Company has remained a family-owned business and grown with the techniques and technologies of the painting and restoration industries.

HC was quite the entrepreneur; having started three different businesses in the 1920’s. The Dependable Painting Company was the one that became his legacy and success story.

A first-generation American of Norwegian descent, HC spoke seven languages. The original focus of his then young painting company was factory and industrial painting. This was the beginning of a business that would last well beyond his years.

Passing the Business On

After serving in World War II as an Army navigator and graduating from Ohio University on a GI bill, HC’s son, Philip Hansen, came to work for his father at The Dependable Painting Company. Over the years, Philip worked his way up and eventually became President. Under Philip’s leadership, the company expanded their work by painting medical and industrial facilities.

Third Generation Makes Great Strides

While their father Philip was running the company, all of his children spent summer breaks working for the business. When Philip passed away in 1980, his son, Don Hansen, stepped in to continue the business.

Don proceeded to grow the family business by bringing in a lot of new-construction painting projects in addition to even more industrial and institutional work. At that time, the company also added restoration services to their work portfolio.

In 2004, Cindy Friedmann, Don’s sister, took over majority ownership of the family business and became the President. Today, Don is the company’s Vice-President. Cindy and Don’s brother, David, began working for Dependable Painting as a painter right out of high school. He later moved in-house to work as an estimator and is now retired. David’s wife, Donna, is the Receptionist/Bookkeeper.

In 2010, The Dependable Painting Company expanded by opening a location in Toledo, Ohio. Chuck Mann, former owner of Charles F. Mann Painting, was asked to manage and lead the Toledo division of The Dependable Painting Company. Prior to Chuck’s retirement in 2016, his brother, Rick Mann, was brought on board to continue with the success of the Toledo office.

While The Dependable Painting Company has changed dramatically since 1928, we continue to guarantee our commitment to service and quality, no matter what your needs. Our commitment is so strong, it’s in our name: Dependable. It’s who and what we are.
